Social AR: A Medium for Social Commentary
Social AR is augmented reality (AR) displayed through various social apps like Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat and Tiktok. Or, in simpler words – it is all the fun and engaging camera filters we love to use when updating our stories. But can these filters become carriers of important messages and even fuel social change? Can we use this liminal digital space to show the unseen? During this 2-hour workshop, you will learn the basic principles of augmented reality and create your very own AR project using Spark AR – Facebook’s augmented reality platform. Together, we will also explore several exciting cases of socially engaged AR. The workshop is perfect for beginners and artists/designers who are looking to use augmented reality as a new platform for their voices.
