All stories begin with our failures. The unaccomplished dream to escape our body, too transform into something else – immaterial and eternal. We live on the ruins of an imagined splendour. This is not how it was supposed to be. We relay on simulations only that now an alien organism attacks and damages our central nervous system. An error is inevitable. Shock is probably the best term. Fear doesn’t let go even for a moment. It hides somewhere around the corner and stares at us. What will it bring? We don’t know. We enter a state of paranoid isolation where contact with another human will be an act of terror. I would love to cover everyone in concrete so they feel safe and sound. Hidden away. Keeping their distance in imagined shelters. We observe a simulation of remote contact, a concert with no audience. The only viewers are the unknown creatures and their unnatural fast eye movements.
Piotr Wyrzykowski alias Peter Style born in 1968 in Gdańsk, is an new media artist, performer, and set designer. Wyrzykowski works with mobile applications, video, multimedia performance, photography, web projects, installation, and screenings in public space. He studied interior design (1989–1991), and painting (1991–1995) at the Academy of Fine Art in Gdańsk. MA at Intermedia Studio of Professor W. Czerwonka. In the 1990s, he was an active participant of the Gdańsk art scene. Co-funder of the CSW Laznia, (former Open Atelier Foundation) and vice president of Wyspa Progress Foundation. Co-founder and artistic director of CUKT – Central Office of Technical Culture active from 1995 to 2001. When CUKT’s net service came into being it was one of the most interesting and advanced Internet projects. The best known project of the group was among others the media performance – ‘Presidential Campaign of Wiktoria Cukt’ that proposed a virtual candidate for the President of Poland. Wiktoria was an interface of computer program for collective decision making called OSW. Wyrzykowski’s video Beta Nassau (1993) is in the collection of MoMA, New York. Lives and works in Gdańsk.
