This animated video is a kind of ironic parody of digital language assistants with impeccable grammar and accurate word prediction, and a functional style of speech. The work is about a speculative “anti-advertisement” of a fictional online language school that teaches communication on the Internet in a dystopian world where humanity has lost control of its speech and no longer perceives it as its biological organ. Advertising is the promotion of a web plug-in, that is, a “digital language assistant”, which is responsible for the user’s linguistic activity in the digital space without the user’s direct intervention.
Aizhan`s works reflect on topics such as multilingualism and multiculturalism, the feeling of being lost between changing language codes. For the last 6 months, Aizhan has been working on the "human digital twin" technology within the "V`Stol" team, which consists of 4 multidisciplinary artists from different countries. The work and lengthy discussions on the project led to her interest in topics such as the position of linguistics in the age of the internet and social media, how virtual spaces affect humanity's analogue language, and what are the hypothetical implications for the use of certain technological innovations.
