Video for EP ”Non-self/비자아” by Jaeho Hwang has 3d scanned models of people in Tokyo as portraits of East Asian with brutally and ruthlessly deconstructed animation to the music to explore the sense of identity in constant changes in line with the Buddhist concept of anatta, or non-self. Another fundamental concept of Jaeho Hwang’s work is that how he interprets his cultural heritage in his unique way that reflects his contradicting identity massively influenced by different cultural zones and shows how West and East culture crash into each other in his experience.
Jaeho Hwang is a London-based DJ, producer, and visual artist who recontextualizes traditional Korean instrumentation and brings it into contemporary music and visual art scene. South Korean artist inspired by the Buddhist concept of impermanent selfhood, his first EP “Non-Self/비자아” combines dark, industrial club beats with old Korean sound and samples with his video materials.
