“Cat Not Here” is an animated short film based on a true story. It’s the unlikely tale of a struggling London artist called Brian who in 2011 set out to try and win the Turner Prize by creating an artwork that did not exist. Brian believed he’d had the greatest idea of his life, but things didn’t turn out quite as he expected. A Brian Luff Film. Written and produced by Georgina Sowerby & Brian Luff.

Brian Luff is a multi-award-winning short film maker. His animated film ARISTAEUS won the Spirit of the Festival Award at the London Short Series Festival in 2018, and his film KISS FROGGY KISS won awards at 3 international film festivals in 2021. Brian has worked as a senior digital producer for the BBC and as Head of Digital Content for 2 global television networks.Cat Not Here is a true account of an art experiment Brian created with his partner Georgina Sowerby in 2011. Inspired by Martin Creed’s Turner Prize-winning piece Work No 227, in which lights were switched on and off in an empty room, he wanted to try and see if he could persuade an art gallery to exhibit a work that didn’t exist at all. Amazingly, he was successful. He would have entered CAT NOT HERE for the Turner Prize, but sadly he was older than the upper age limit of 50 years.
