I am a lucid dreamer and sometimes the dreams take a dark turn. I think it is pretty common for us to dream about falling and in some dreams the fall never ends – wee continuously fall and it is both exhilarating and terrifying. I always remember the one of the lines of Bjork’s Hyperballad – “and when I land, will my eyes be open or closed?”

I had a phone call with a long-term friend of mine. He had recently had both of his parents die and it only complicated his mental and physical health. He stopped posting on social media and one day I had a terrible feeling. The day before he had taken his own life. He has advanced Alzheimer’s Disease, yet when prompted to perform musically, he remains sharp as ever. In a moving documentary about this final performance, his collaborator Lady Gaga mentions that Bennett could not remember her name for several months, yet, in the heat of the final performance, he remembers it without error. The power of the human mind is both fragile and resilient.
