“Virtuality” is a short experimental AI-generated animation, created using CLIP, a neural network trained using a massive dataset of images and their captions to figure out how well a given text corresponds to an image. It is able to gradually create or transform any image to agree with a prompt – a text or another image, that serves as the target. In this case, it has been fed a series of phrases and themes from the manifesto for the 18th ADAF. We can see how the neural network interprets the themes it is being presented, generating continuously zooming dream-like visions, and allowing us to see the way it brings to life abstract concepts such as singularity, biotechnology, and virtual reality, all the while mixing them with more concrete elements. The initial image and visual inspiration for the animation is “Turbine Aereo”, a 1938 painting by Italian futurist artist Fulvio Raniero Mariani.
