Rooms are essential sources for the home-coming feeling everybody develops during life. Our private rooms are filled up with psychological projections, unfilled wishes, hopes and dreams. But there are psychological rooms, too, filled with emotions, expectations, all kind of mental energy, may it be positive or negative. The Room Project is built up of several video works, mostly one channel. Each work is regarding a profession, a special kind of room (e.g. a stage, a show case, a castles room etc.), intermingled with linguistic meaning of the profession, the room and language itself. Important aspects of this project is the shifting of perception focus within every single video work of the body of works from the project. Some video works will be named after existing rooms, e.g. in private homes, castles etc.. Other video works will have the title and play with the idea and the connotation of a word, e.g. glass case, Mountainrange, and bring together the linguistic meaning which is important for communication with some associations rooted in the mental and psychological status of a person. The outcome will be a “big house” consisting of at least 10-20 rooms, each room dedicated to special emotions, professions, or linguistic meanings.

To Nebe, “fantasy and creative intelligence are important survival skills today.” So is chess, an analogy he keeps referring to: “Chess exemplifies my game with the viewer. In a world of shortening attention spans, it’s an ideal concentration-practice. One always has to think a few steps in advance.” By screening the insanity of our daily chase towards evolutionary bankruptcy, Nebe in a clever move takes the reason prisoner, only to appoint reason to be the king of his game of chess. He calls for a close review of the encyclopedia of our philosophical and cultural foundations. In his opinion reason has the potential to direct a path away from the horror vacui he is depicting: “The model of enlightenment has increasingly been discredited, wrongfully I believe. Today survival and coexistence are only possible if governed by the faculty of reason. Labeling and connoting intellectual categories help to bring new relations into sight and to gain unexpected terms of knowledge.”
