This is a trailer from the large scale interactive sound installation for 4.0 surround system THE ZONE by Volumetric Units that was created by a team of students from the School of Fine Arts of the University of Ioannina. The project was created and completed during the tuition of the Sound Design module at the University of Ioannina. It was constructed and shown at the University of Ioannina campus at the AV-Lab and was open for the public for two days (19th and 20th of February of 2020 respectively). “THE ZONE” is a piece that raises the question of the invasion, imposition, and expansion of technology in modern-day life. Technology is imposed on man, but it is controlled by him, even subconsciously. The visitor enters the “zone” and experiences a situation of action-reaction in between him and an unfamiliar sound environment, where the flow of sound information depends on his interaction with space. The project invokes a sense of confusion about temporality. Space becomes a perpetually elusive present moment/situation, a glance to the hallucinatory dreamlike aspect of time where the visitor experiences the consequences of his actions.
